Literature Connection
I don't know why but occurrence at owl creek bridge really reminded me of Avengers Endgame. The man really wanted to see and feel his loved ones. Right as he got to them he vanished.
I can't help feel really bad for them both. Imagine going through a rough journey and then right when you see the end, you reach out to touch it and your dead. You've lost your family. You just wanted to touch, you just wanted to feel alive. I wonder did he know he was saying goodbye to his family for the last time before he went to the bridge.
What a great connection, Brooke! I still haven't seen that movie, but I have heard almost everyone dies.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great comparison. In the Amazing Spiderman 3 something similar happens. Spiderman catches his girlfriend with the web when she's falling so you think she is saved. Then she suddenly hits the ground and breaks her back. That never happens in stories so it's more realistic but surprising. I'm sure Farquahr must have considered that he could get caught when he headed off, but he probably didn't think he would die or he wouldn't have gone.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it does have a lot of similarities to Hawkeye's character arc in Endgame, but with one major difference. In Endgame, they win and Clint gets his family back, while Peyton straight up dies without being able to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteYour last point is actually a very good one. God knows the exact number of our days, but we absolutely do not. He may chose to take any one of us home to Him at any time, without warning. Whenever you say goodbye to someone, it always has the possibility to be your last. It reminds me of the song in Hamilton, Best of Wives and Best of Women, where Hamilton takes leave of Eliza before going to to duel Burr- the duel in which he will ultimately lose his life. Neither of them know it in this song, but it is the last time they will see each other whilst they are both hale and whole.
